my ideal morning is ritualistic: wake up, pray and prepare myself a hot drink. i’m not a huge coffee drinker, though I do delight in afternoon shots of espresso. in the AM, however, i prefer a warming cup of sénégalese chai.
the name origin, or rather inspiration, of this drink comes from travels, and I like to think I’m paying cultural homage by making its consumption part of my everyday morning routine.
we’re in really strange times, and i find solace in grounding myself in intentionality decorated by moments of nostalgia. the sénégalese chai can be enjoyed at any time of day and i often find myself preparing it throughout as a gentle pick-me-up without nearly as much caffeine.
the recipe is simple: 2 cups of milk, 2 tsp of sugar, 3 tbsp of cloves, 2 tsp of cinnamon and one black tea bag— if i’m feeling cheeky, i’ll add two bags.

i hope you find yourself feeling spontaneous this week and take time for yourself by making this lovely sénégalese chai. if this drink sounds too decadent, it’s because it is and, in case no one told you, you deserve it.
anyways, i hope this helps you in your wellness journey.
love & madness,
