if i could do it all over again i’d consider dermatology because i am absolutely fascinated by the skin.
it’s easy to gloss over the fact that skin is, indeed, our largest organ because it’s not internal, but i’m having a very real obsession avec le peau1 at the moment.
i like to think that i can speak authoritatively on matters that concern the skin because i lived in two beauty capitals (France & Morocco), but there is something truly magical that happens when one uses huile2.
admittedly, i began face oiling because i couldn’t afford to splurge on my usual skincare products, but i’m a converted believer in the power of oil to not only moisturize the skin, but cleanse. also, admittedly, i found some cleansers to be too harsh on my face, which resulted in the thinning of my eyebrows.
i’ve been face oiling now for over four months and have seen considerable changes in my skin [and eyebrows], mostly that it is more buoyant, hydrated and soft; i exfoliate once a week.
i also think there’s something incredibly luxe about using an oil to cleanse the face. my bathroom transforms into a hammam when i massage the oil into my pores, releasing the dirt trapped within and a day’s worth of makeup.
in the past, i used grapeseed oil as my night and morning oil of choice, but i found extra virgin olive oil to be nothing short of wondrous.
the composition of my skin is combination, both oily and dry, erring more towards the latter, but i find, and have found to be true, that climate plays a huge role in the health of my skin.
personally, i notice that my skin thrives in humidity as the moisture in the air gives my face a suppler texture in appearance, and products reach maximum absorbency; drier and heavier polluted areas are, obviously, not so kind.
i predict in the upcoming months, especially when it gets colder, i’ll mix the oil with a heavier moisturizer, but, as of now, i am generally content with my regimen, though i am not completely averse to trying new skincare products.
for beginners, i recommend trying an unrefined cold-pressed oil once or twice a week at night just to see how the skin reacts. be mindful that each oil has a different level of absorbency, and one which may be too heavy for others may suit your skin otherwise.
if nothing else, it’s certainly worth a try for les sourcils3. anyways, i hope this helps you in your beauty journey.
love & madness,
